Foot conditions
Here you will find the foot problems that come up most often at the clinic: what they are, why they hurt and what can be done about each one. The aim is that you arrive knowing what is being discussed, not that you diagnose yourself at home: two feet with the same symptom can need different things.
-
Plantar fasciitis
The most common cause of heel pain. It hurts most in the first steps of the day and eases after walking for a while.
-
Metatarsalgia
Pain in the sole, at the base of the toes. It is the area that carries most weight as the foot pushes off.
-
Morton’s neuroma
A nerve in the sole that becomes irritated between two toes. It gives shooting pain, tingling or the feeling of something in the shoe.
-
Bunion (hallux valgus)
The big toe drifting towards the others, with the bump that sticks out on the inner edge of the foot.
-
Claw and hammer toes
Toes that bend and stop touching the ground. They rub against the shoe above and overload the sole below.
-
Flat feet in children
At certain ages flat feet are exactly what is expected. What matters is whether they hurt, whether they are flexible and whether they change.
-
Heel pain in children (Sever’s disease)
The most common heel pain between 8 and 14. It appears with sport and usually settles when the load is reduced.
